In case you missed the news, Splash Mountain, a popular attraction at Disneyland® Park in Anaheim, is set to get some updates. The iconic ride will be “reimagined,” according to a Disney press release, and pay homage to Princess Tiana and the animated Disney film “The Princess and the Frog.”
For those who are unfamiliar with the movie (What are you waiting for? It’s great!), “The Princess and the Frog,” takes place in New Orleans and the Louisiana bayou and follows the story of Princess Tiana, Disney’s first Black princess.
“The new concept is inclusive – one that all of our guests can connect with and be inspired by, and it speaks to the diversity of the millions of people who visit our parks each year,” the press release states regarding the updated theme.
What to expect
Per Disney, the reimagined attraction will follow Tiana and her alligator friend, Louis, on a musical adventure as they prepare for the Mardi Gras performance and include some of the popular music from the film. The project is still in the early development stages, but you can get the first look here.
The existing Splash Mountain attraction, located in Critter Country, includes 950,000 gallons of water and a 5-story drop, making it a favorite among park-goers. We can’t wait to see what this updated ride has in store. Based on the renderings, it looks pretty awesome!
