If COVID-19 messed up your summer travel plans, you’re not alone. We’ve heard from a lot of people who were excited to visit Disneyland® Resort this summer but had to change plans thanks to the virus. While the parks still remain closed, we want to help you make the most of your summer! We’ve put together this guide to help you plan an epic Disneyland® Resort Staycation from the comfort of your house — at least until we can safely welcome you back to Anaheim and you can hop our Dream Machine shuttle to the parks. Get ready to experience some Disneyland® Resort fun — minus the crowds!
Step #1: Decorate — Disney-style.
To get you and your family in the spirit, consider decorating your home with pictures from the parks or your favorite films and characters, Disney balloons, pillows, blankets, tablecloths — whatever gets you in the vacation spirit and adds a touch of magic! A lot of fun Disney decor items can be purchased online, or get crafty and make your own DIY decorations — like this villain silhouette gallery!

Step #2: Create the perfect playlist
Of course, your Disneyland® Resort staycation isn’t complete without filling your home with the iconic sounds of the parks. From the Dapper Dans to the well-known music like “it’s a small world,” get into the spirit with the perfect playlist. Check out this music mix featuring music from Main Street USA, Tomorrowland, and more!
Step #3. Plan your outfit.
Wearing a great Disney-themed outfit and picking out some Mickey ears is a key part of the Disney vacation experience. Shop for mouse ears online or show off your creativity and make your own as a fun DIY craft project! One of the cool things about having a Disney vacation at home is that there are no rules regarding attire, so even grown-ups can fully dress up as their favorite characters if they want to!
Step #4. Develop a Disney-themed menu.
We love, love, love to eat and Disneyland® Resort has a lot of great food. Plan an awesome menu filled with all the treats you’d want to indulge in at the parks — Bavarian pretzels, turkey legs, churros, dole whips, corn dogs, and so many more! Whether you go all out or keep it simple, there’s no doubt you and your loved ones will still have fun cooking — and eating — some delicious food.
If you’re feeling really fancy, check out some of the recipes Disney has recently shared on its official blog. Our mouths are watering just thinking about it.
- PB and J Rolls inspired by the chefs at Lamplight Lounge at Disney California Adventure Park.
- Disney-inspired burgers from around the world, including Anaheim.
- Pumpkin recipes and inspiration from spooky Halloween Time celebrations.
Step #5. Enjoy rides & attractions
There’s nothing quite plummeting down Splash Mountain or exploring a galaxy far, far away in Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run. We recently shared some of the best Disneyland® Resort attractions, but it’s not quite the same enjoying them from the comfort of your own home. However, we’ll work with what we’ve got for now!
There’s plenty of content available online that gives you an up-close-and-personal look at the rides and attractions, which is a lot of fun to watch. From World of Color to parades and rides, do a quick YouTube search or check out the official Disney website to get a front-row seat for your favorites attractions — without waiting in line or having an obstructed view! (If you’re a first time visitor, these videos are actually really helpful when it comes to planning your Disneyland® Resort must-do list for when you can actually visit in person.)
Other than videos, you can also create your own fun with Disney-themed attractions at home — from Disney-themed coloring pages and board games featuring your favorite characters to trivia nights or obstacle courses. Disney is all about creativity and embracing your inner child, so let loose and have some fun!
We’ll see you in Anaheim soon!
While nothing can replace time in the parks, hopefully a Disneyland® Resort staycation can keep you and your family entertained until you’re able to visit. If you’re hosting a Disney staycation, we’d love to see the fun! Be sure to share some photos with us on Facebook or Instagram!
We hope you’re able to visit Disneyland® Resort soon and that you’ll stay with us when you do! We’ll see you soon!
